This economical and versatile gel documentation system is ideal for small labs to acquire images from agarose gels stained with GRGreen, GelGreen, GelStar, SYBR Gold, SYBR Safe, and acrylamide gels stained with fluorescence dyes (GRGreen for oligonucleotides, SYPRO Orange for protein), biological samples with GFP, YFP and RFP. This gel documentation system does not need computer for operation, but you can connect the camera to computer through USB cord for "PC controlled capturing".
This gel documentation system includes the following components:
1, A compact darkroom hood.
2, A new or used digital camera with accessories including 58 mm lens filter adaptor and a DarkReader lens filter.
3, A blue light transilluminator: DarkReader from Clare Chemical.
4, Optional: Software for computer-control capture and file transfer.
We can also provide the following optional components:
1, UV transilluminator.
2, UV to blue light converter, which is 10 to 100 times less sensitive than DarkReader.
3, Gel analysis software.

1, You already have a professional or high-end, advanced digital camera including Canon DSLR cameras, Powershot A620, A640, A650, S5 IS, G9, G10, G11 or if you prefer a working used digital camera purchased from Ebay or Craigslist. Canon Powershot G11 is a prefered camera.

Note: not all cameras are compatible with the darkroom hood.
2, You have a UV transilluminator and you want to use a UV to blue light converter. Please note that the UV to blue light converter is about 10 to 100 times less sensitive than the Dark Reader blue light transilluminator. But UV to blue light converter is good enough for routine gel analysis such as PCR, restriction digestion etc.
